Best Places To Visit In Mississauga

Mississauga is the sixth-largest city in Canada by population, and as such, it has developed into a great community with lots to see and places to visit. As an art and cultural center, exploring Mississauga is a great experience. Here are some of the places known for great entertainment, historic sites and heritage, and a wonderful time.

Streetsville Mississauga

Located in the heart of the town, Streetsville attracts several people year-round with its brick walls, petite shops and excellent restaurants in the downtown area but yet miraculously away from street noise and urban living. Visiting Streetsville has been described as stepping out of the real world and entering fairytale land where the time seems to pass slower. It is mostly known for the Bread’n’Honey Festival held in June each year, where visitors can enjoy bread from the two mills found in the village (which are nowadays operated by two companies) and local honey. The Streetsville Memorial Park serves as the venue for this entertaining weekend event for friends and family.

Rattray Marsh Conservation Area

For more outdoor fun in Mississauga, residents and visitors often go to the Rattray Marsh Conservation Area, where they enjoy the untouched nature, exploring the area with numerous plants and birds while walking on the boardwalks. Suitable for walks, hiking and cycling, many residents come here to recharge their batteries. In the winter, it is truly a winter wonderland covered with amazing sights, including the Lake Ontario shore. It is very close to the city, so you can dive into the world of wildlife in no time without having to take a long commute.

Port Credit Memorial Park

This park is one of the liveliest spots in the Port Credit community, with many events being organized throughout the year, including the internationally known music festivals Tim Horton Southside Shuffle. The community is vibrant and active, with many interesting details and heritage conservation areas (the Old Port Credit Village) with landmarks and preserved architecture from the 19th and 20th centuries and neat green spaces.

Benares Historic House

This Georgian style home is one of the best known historic spots in Mississauga. The home’s original architecture, plenty of surrounding outdoor space, and dozens of unique artifacts will let you dive into the past and be inspired by the life stories of four generations of the Harris and Sayers family. It is a must-visit for all history and heritage lovers. It is especially fun around the holidays when the house is prepared and decorated for Christmas. Playing the piano and singing Christmas Carols in the historical setting is a very memorable experience.

Kariya Park

The Kariya Park is known for cherry blossom trees, squirrels, birds, and peaceful, picturesque surroundings, and it is entirely inspired by Japanese landscaping. Meanwhile, it has become one of the top hotspots for taking beautiful wedding photos. The park was set up in honour of Mississauga’s Japanese twin city Kariya, and it quickly became one of the go-to places.
